I know we did that. I’m show you guys how to make sweet potato pie from scratch. And it’s better than your grandma’s. Sit down. Class in session. Hold on. Y’all like my new apron? Nightmare Before Christmas. You obviously need sweet potatoes. We’re not going to boil them. Jail. We’re going to roast them. Roasting gives so much more flavor. Boiling like water is not flavor. Roasting caramelizes the sugar in the sweet potato and it’s going to give you a better pie. Pro tip. 400Β° for like an hour or until it’s fork tender. Once they’re nice and roasted, they’re probably going to get saggy skin like my sister. We’re going to peel and then smash them. We need about two cups of mashed sweet potato. You see this? This is flavor. I like to blend them so they’re super smooth. But if you prefer, you could use a fork, a hand mixer, whatever. This just helps get rid of those stringy texture. And this is what it should look like. Nice and smooth. We’re going to add a stick of melted butter. If you want to be bougie, brown the butter. We’re just going to blend it in. Add in your sugar. a cup and a/4 of white and a half a cup of brown sugar. Boom. Blend. And this is what it should look like. We’re going to mix in three eggs. Boom. Now, I’m sorry, but sweet potato pie is better than if you like pumpkin pie. Get out of here. If I’m being honest, if it’s a pie, I’m eating it. Half a cup evaporated milk. This just has more flavor than regular milk. Boom. Half a cup of heavy cream. Grandma ain’t doing this. Vanilla bean paste cuz duh. Half a teaspoon of salt. Boom. And then you add your spices. Now, I don’t care if you don’t like nutmeg. Don’t add it. This is my sweet potato pie. So, we’re going to do cinnamon. 1 and 1/2 teaspoons or you can’t have too much. A little bit of ginger and a little bit of nutmeg. Now, you can adjust this to whatever you prefer. Now, before you judge, hear me out. We’re going to add in a squeeze of an orange. I know y’all are cursing me out right now, but this just brightens the flavor just just a little bit. Okay? Not too much. Do you see this? Do you see how smooth that is? I like to par bake my pie crust so you don’t get a soggy bath. You just pour your filling. Now we’re going to bake at 325 for like 50 minutes. Don’t overbake. It should be slightly jiggly in the center but nice and set. This is what it should look like. Now I have a crack in the middle. I’m going to add some of this whipped cream to cover my crack. No one will know. And boom. Sweet potato pie. M. Get to bacon. You guys can have this.

  1. He’s like me when it comes to measuring the spices. When l make my grandma’s zucchini bread, l use about 4-5 tablespoons of cinnamon for 2 loaves.

  4. If you don't like nutmeg, try grating fresh. It has a less aggressive taste than nutmeg in a jar. Can't find fresh nutmeg? Add a little allspice in its place.πŸ₯§

  5. I agree πŸ’― percent!! I'd rather have a sweet potato pie than pumpkin, any day. Great apron! πŸ’€
