My co-worker made me her version of Nanaimo bars for my birthday, and they’re the best I’ve ever had.
There's a layer of dulce de leche between the bottom chocolate layer and the custard icing.
I loooooove the thick icing and the dulce de leche just puts them over the top.
She makes such amazing treats!☺️

If anyone is interested, Barry has a collection of 9 different varieties of Nanaimo Bars at: https://www.rockrecipes.com/nanaimo-bar-recipe-collection/ He’s from Newfoundland 🇨🇦, and has a bunch of other recipes that are synonymous with the area. And he has some great recipes for spice rubs, too!

NYT had a recipe for those a while ago, and I made them, but they didn’t turn out well. Hers looks fantastic!

I didn’t expect to read the words dulce de leche here! Never heard of this recipe, where is it from?
If you’re ever in Nanaimo, the webpage also has a Nanaimo Bar Trail that shows where to get a bunch of different types of Nanaimo bars around town.

I just tried to make those earlier today! I got the recipe the city itself, and they don’t look as good as those!

Love Nanaimo bars! Finding powdered custard is damn near impossible in the US, so I made a point to grab some when I was in Canmore!

My favorite dessert! I only make them once a year at Christmas or if we have guests that I like over.

My mom made some many years ago, and didn’t have the graham crackers she needed for the crust, so she used some kinda stale bread crumbs. Everyone wanted her recipe that year – she really didn’t want to share it.
A caramel layer would be heavenly.

OMG. I’m in South Florida and make Nanaimo bars for our friends’ Canada Day party every year. It’s about to be one-upped.

Hahahahah, how long did she bake them for?
So ironic it’s in the baking subreddit.
But I know what they taste like so I’m happy to see the pictures and a little jealous p.

Sad to say that I only know about these because of Schitt’s Creek, and I’ve never had one. I may try this recipe because they look amazing!
