PSA: go buy something to clean out that space under the vents….I might have just got one today…
So I went a pretty long time never cleaning out that space behind the bottom air vent….I did not know how much ash was building up down there and was wondering why it was taking so long for the grill to warm up.

Your egg is in the holder backwards, the crossbar is to support the rear legs when the top is open.

Do you mean to the left and right of the air vent, I’m not sure what you mean by under.

Ash-catch dust pan to catch all that leftover ash from your smokes. I clean mine out before every cook to maximize even flow an heat distribution.

I just use my shop vac to clean the ash from the bottom of the fire chamber. It’s super simple and I think prolongs the life of the grill.

Just shop vac it after each session
ShadowDV
you should be cleaning it after every cook or two. It builds up quickly and will really stifle airflow.

Just lift out the ceramic inserts every few cooks.

I use a Kick Ash basket & ash pan. Quick & easy. No need for a vacuum
Also did you think the ash just magically vanished lol

There is also a little space between the firebox and the base, about 1″ wide that also accumulates ash.

I got a tool from Ace hardware that has an ash scraper tool on one side and a grate pick up tool on the other. Just pull the ashes into a dustpan.

There’s like a stick with a metal L on the end of it you can scoop it out with . I just use a small bucket from the $ store . Maybe like every 5 cooks I do it

That is pot ash, acid but great for plants.

I use a small paintbrush, I’ve found it makes less of a mess than dealing with the shopvac filter. Important note: I do not have a good shopvac

I take a shop vac to mine prior to each use. Dump all the used charcoal in the chimney and get it going while I vacuum it out.
fastben1
I pull everything out and clean after every cook.
Spardan80
I have the Kick Ash Can and vac mine out every 20-30 cooks.

I use a shop vac

Shop vac works great. Takes a couple minutes, no mess.

I keep a bucket top vacuum just for cleaning out the my egg. I find the fine ash clogs the filter on my main shop vac.
pattywagon95
I have a shop vac and used to just suck out all the ash every few cooks, but I just got a kick ash can and basket and HIGHLY recommend them, makes it unbelievably easy to get rid of all the ash and small charcoal pieces that kill airflow, I can’t believe how much work I was subjecting myself to and how much unpredictability with temps I could have avoided for years
