Not only that, but they also look nothing like the picture as well.

It can be wagyu without having crazy marbling.
They have a scoring system for a reason.
Also wagyu is a breed not a type of steak

  2. Elipticrush

American wagyu is nothing like Japanese or Australian wagyu.

Good lord that’s a good cow.

I’ve grabbed choice far better than prime before, it’s all just words to me now.

  4. Critical-Werewolf-53

American waygu only needs 51% genetic of waygu to be called waygu.
    Prime has actual grading guidelines

  5. Helpful-nothelpful

At $26/lb I’ll pass on both.

Wagyu just means Japanese cattle breed, it has absolutely nothing to do with the marbling. You could have a Wagyu A1- BMS1 steak

Damn near $30 a pound for beef…..it’s probably cheaper to just raise a cow yourself

What if they placed the signs incorrectly 😱

  9. Entire_Toe2640

I’d buy the prime. That Wagyu must be very low grade.

Don’t even know how you can call that Wagyu

  11. randomthrowaway9796

Maybe because prime actually has standards in the US while the term wagyu is very loosely regulated

Latest in a long line of reminders that “Wagyu” is little more than a marketing label, just like “Angus” which is also technically a breed, but all but pointless when the physical qualities of the steak don’t match the price premium.

This is where people educate themselves or feed their ignorance and swear off Wagyu.

Ungraded Wagyu might as well need utility grade.

  14. Illustrious-Path4794

Wagyu is a breed not a grade

  15. neptunexl

Lol looks like they messed up the labeling or something, the second picture looks exactly like the ribeyes on the left

  16. Serious-Wish4868

wagyu has become just a social media clout thing, ppl post about wagyu to show off.
