With the tips and tricks I’ve gathered from this sub and various other platforms, not only is this meal so much cheaper (Boneless beef short rib, red potatoes, frozen veggies) but I actually just like my meal so much better.

I’m the same way but my girlfriend loves going out lol

I love cooking at home, I used to do it a lot, I just wish I had more time for it. I eat out almost everyday due to work schedule and job responsibilities.
I know I can do a better job, especially when it comes to steak.

Steak and Pabst. Awesome dinner.

100% and then you have money to tip yourself at the end. I only go out on special occasions, and even then I prefer to make the food I like.

Wife and I had the same talk the other day. We’ve really dialed in most of the dishes we really love and in some cases what we do at home is even superior to the restaurant.
Plus it’s a lot easier to burn a fatty in between courses 🤣

The only thing that warrants going out now is actually the buffet.
My reasoning is that with the modern transfer of cooking information via Reddit/Youtube, cooking is now a skill that can very easily be practiced BUT the one characteristic of a restaurant that makes it worth a visit is variety.
While cooking something like a steak with a side is fairly doable at home, cooking a dozen different things is nearly impossible and the clean up after it is gonna be horrendous. Buffets circumvent all this by offering something that is not really possible at home which is eating an impossibly wide range of foods that can’t be cooked at home at the same time.

That’s a mighty fine dish you got there.

Depends where and why I’m going out, personally. A restaurant is about the food and drink, yeah, but that’s not all going to one is for.
This looks great though OP.
Kinky_Imagination
Better food at home, you know what ingredients go into your cooking and it’s more comfortable in your own home.
Looks good.

Wait, so those are boneless beef ribs you seared off? Not a bad idea. I regularly see prime beef rib for way cheaper than the ribeyes
tylerprice2569
Yeah pbr is crazy expensive at a steak house
TieSimilar7220
This is so fucking peak dude holy shit. I need to have this exact meal today
POSITIVE_ABOUT_HIV
70 dollar meal at a restaurant and they won’t cook it nearly as well.
Individual-Stop-8550
Exactly. I can grill my own steaks, please and thank you. And if I somehow overcook it, I’ve only myself to blame but at least I’ve saved on gas money
Southtune-stringbox
Fuhhhh that is the perfect daily meal
KccOStL33
Same. I did a deep dive into properly cooking steak a couple years ago and after some trial and error got it down pretty good. Kinda ruined going out for us though..

What is the recipe for those green beans?
MagazineDelicious151
Completely understand when you’re crushing it at home like that.
joeyjoejums
Why would you.

It blows my mind that eating at home equates to eating out. Your meal looks fine. And you probably won’t complain about any of it. But eating out is an act. Eating in public, having dinner with someone and celebrating an opportunity to get together or a special occasion, or just treating yourself. That’s the beauty of being out to dinner.
Eating out shouldn’t be cheaper than eating at home. But, it should be better.
pikapalooza
Yup. I made myself a California carne asada burrito the other day. Probably cost me $5 in stuff (which I have more to make more of). Same thing would have been $15 outside.

I work as a cook at a semi fancy restaurant and I’m trying to teach them. The problem is some don’t care and others are set in their ways. The younger crowd who are tough enough to work the line seem to be learning though with some guidance

Ey why you got it lookin so JUICY with that nice crust though?!
