TULSA, Okla. –

With federal food assistance programs on pause due to the ongoing government shutdown, Tulsa Area United Way has launched an emergency food drive to support neighbors facing hunger in Eastern Oklahoma.

The food drive aims to fill the gap left by the suspension of SNAP benefits and rising food insecurity, especially among vulnerable families who rely on basic needs programs supported by TAUW and its partners.

Why the food drive is happening

As the federal government shutdown drags on, access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits has been disrupted for many Oklahoma residents. That sudden loss is creating a ripple effect across the region, with local nonprofits and food banks now scrambling to meet increased demand.

Tulsa Area United Way says it is acting in coordination with its network of partner organizations to ensure basic resources remain available.
