Greece’s wine industry remains very dynamic, as after the acquisitions of the previous months, it was announced on Monday that the Ktima Sigala estate was fully acquired by the Kyr-Yiannis company headed by Stelios Boutaris.

Then next month Kathimerini understands that Hellenic Wineries – the company of Thomas and Ilias Georgiadis, in which Giannis Antetokounmpo is also a shareholder – will proceed with another acquisition. The same company is also awaiting the court’s decision on the bankruptcy of Tsantalis, having already taken over the management and utilization of the historic winemaker’s vineyards.

Having already participated in Ktima Sigala since 2009 and with a much greater involvement since 2020, when it took over the management of the company, Kyr-Yiannis now has the former in its absolute control, a development with a financial footprint but mainly with strong symbolism. In 2024, the turnover of Ktima Sigala Winery was 3.5 million euros and the turnover of Kyr-Yiannis was €16.8 million.

With the acquisition of full control of Ktima Sigala, the company of Stellios Boutaris is expected to exceed €20 million in turnover, while exports reach €7 million, with the company’s emblematic wines and its famous labels having a presence in 55 countries.

What is strengthened most, of course, with the acquisition of Ktima Sigala is wine tourism, with the famous Assyrtiko as its main ambassador. Over 35,000 people visited the three destinations (Naoussa, Amyntaio and Santorini) of the Kyr-Yiannis and Sigala estates this year.

Wine tourism is a key objective of the investments that the Georgiadis brothers have made so far through Hellenic Wineries. The entrepreneurs, originally from Lamia, but with property companies in Sweden and subsequently in Greece (Premia Properties), after acquiring I. Boutaris and Son, saving it from bankruptcy, acquired Semeli Winery of the Sallas family in early 2025.

On Tuesday Hellenic Wineries announced a new corporate identity, under the umbrella of which are the brands Boutari, Semeli Estate, Skalarea Estate, Noctera, as well as of the most popular brands, Cambas, which also belonged to I. Boutaris.
