Overdue post – This was my first visit to Torien. I was excited as I had visited Toroshiki years ago and was curious how this experience would compare.

Summary
Food: Nom (Delicious) |
Worth It: Yes |
Would I eat here again: Yes

Stand outs were the tail and chicken oysters. Everything was cooked perfectly and the dishes were well paced. We were offered 2 more dishes including items not on the menu (I opted for the inner thigh and another tail). I was worried I was going to need a slice after the meal, but the oyakodon (which was actually pretty large) sealed the deal.

My friend, who dined here before, noted that the portions were larger compared to his previous visit which is always a good thing IMO.

As always the service was impeccable, we never had to ask for a refill, every request was met with a smile and everyone genuinely seems happy to be there. We were seen out by our host and chef, who then gave us a bow before saying good night.

I still prefer Torishiki, but that’s primarily due to it having great memories – new experience and unique dishes tied to a first time visit to a top tier yakitori restaurant. With that being said, Torien is definitely a must visit.

Due to health code regulations, levels of doneness and certain dishes (chochin/unfertilized yolks) were unavailable. Please use this as an excuse to travel to Japan and discover the unique experiences they offer.

As always, dining is about pleasure. Go seek what brings you the most.

Your review is consistent with our recent visit in September. I came out of there at the end of the night stuffed to the brim, but it was so good

I went back in the Spring. Great meal! Would definitely go back

Great spot! I can’t decide if I like Kono or Torien more, but it’s a good problem to have

Also I’m surprised to not see the smoked potato on the menu, I thought it was permanent! I’m sure the sweet potato was excellent but it was one of my favorite non chicken skewers I’d ever had
