Hi all. New to group and fairly new to the whole espresso game! As you can see I have fairly a basic setup but I can pull an okay shot of espresso(I think) but am interested in making an upgrade if it’s worth it. My current weakness or limiting factor I think in my workflow is the beans I use. I currently buy union coffee beans but from my local supermarket as my wife gets a staff discount, it’s to get them anytime and i prefer medium to dark roasted beans. They do have a roasted on date on them and they are usually about 4 weeks or so old when i get them.
I don’t currently want to start buying locally roasted beans due to price and its only myself that drinks daily espressos which is usually for a morning latte but also sometimes as a pick me up shot of pure espresso in the day.
So in my mind its not worth upgrading the bambino to anything ‘better’ but it may be worth upgrading my grinder from the sage smart grinder pro to something better like a eureka mignon or zero or a df54…. I normally single dose all my espressos weighing my beans in and coffee output out.
I also got a single dose hopper with bellows for the SSGP which is a brilliant upgrade btw for anyone with one that usually single doses.
So my question is, is it worth upgrading the grinder for my current use case or only if I am going to start buying fresher beans? Also I assume it’s not worth upgrading from the bambino plus at the moment?

Thanks for any feedback and advice.

Yes. I couldn’t get consistent results on my Bambino+ with the SGP. I got a Sette 270wi which transformed it, but we’re in a golden era of grinders so go for a DF54 or Mignon or whatever really, most will be better than the SGP. Varia VS3 could be a good shout too. Need to decide if you want conical or flat burrs.

Beans will also be an improvement but 4 weeks after roast isn’t terrible.

I have a little option o lagom mini that grinds great for my bambino, would recommend if you can afford it.

Had the same set up. When with a eureka mignon specialita and the improvement was pretty significant

You can wait for the DF60, it’ll be a huge improvement over df54

So I moved to a KINGrinder K6 to see if I could taste the difference.

If I CBA to keep hand grinding I will look to upgrade but for now I am happy

I have the bambino plus and planning to buy the SGP. It looks good, not too big as many other grinders. And I need it to grind for pour over as well. A lot of espresso grinders don’t do that well by my research. I think a lot of the eureka grinders looks big and ugly. It’s also twice the price in my country.

I think you’ve got a nice setup tbh. When you say you are new… How long have you had your setup?
