As the magic of the festive season approaches, this picturesque and charming village comes alive with colorful Christmas markets. Just a short train ride from the capital, it’s an unmissable getaway for families, friends or couples.
Not 1, but 6 Christmas markets await you in this enchanting Alsatian village.
When December rolls around, it’s time to head for eastern France and the brilliant village of Colmar. In this corner of Alsace, already worth a visit at any time of year, the old town is transformed for the festive season: garlands, illuminated half-timbered facades and chalets are set up. This year’s Christmas events and markets run from November 25 to December 29.

In fact, we’re not talking about a single market, but six distinct sites spread throughout Colmar’s historic center: the Place des Dominicains, the Place Jeanne d’Arc, the Place de l’Ancienne Douane, the Koïfhus (covered market), the Petite Venise district, and the Gourmet market on the Rue de la Montagne Verte. Each of these corners has its own atmosphere of craftsmanship and gastronomy.
As you stroll down the aisles, you’ll be intoxicated. The scent of mulled wine mingles with the aromas of gingerbread, bredele and kougelhopf. The half-timbered houses are adorned with lights, and the river creates a fairytale atmosphere.
For this season, the opening hours are as follows: Monday to Thursday, you can visit from 11am to 7pm; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the chalets open at 10am and close at 8pm. And a special note: the gourmet market and the Montagne Verte Ferris wheel will remain open until January 4, 2026, extending the festive interlude beyond Christmas.

On the Place de l’Ancienne Douane and around the Koïfhus, you’ll find unique handmade objects: wooden decorations, natural candles, wooden toys, handcrafted jewelry. The ideal place to find a gift to put under the tree. For gourmet pleasures, the gourmet market is a nugget: several cabins run by chefs offer revisited Alsatian dishes, in a convivial atmosphere.
All in all, the Colmar 2025 Christmas markets are a must for anyone looking for a charming festive getaway. The Alsatian atmosphere is present at every corner, and the markets offer a wide variety of delights. However, it’s advisable to book your accommodation and train early, as Alsace fills up fast at this time of year.
