Welcome to Hope’s Homemade Kitchen. Today we’re making one of my favorite recipes, apple crisp. This is such a delicious, easy to make dessert, and it’s great when you have an abundance of apples, like many of us do in the fall. Now, this dessert is warm and spicy and so delicious when you pair it with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. And my favorite part is that crunchy strusel topping. Let’s get started and I’ll show you the ingredients. The ingredients for the apple crisp are apples. I’m using six honey crisp apples. You can use any kind. Lemon juice, granulated sugar, butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, allpurpose flour, and rolled oats. I’m using an 11 by8 pan. You can also use an 8×8 pan. Okay. The first thing you want to do is preheat your oven to 350°. And then begin peeling your apples. So, I have six of them, and these are honey crisp, but you can use any kind you like. This dessert is one of my favorites. We have it more in the fall, but it is so good all year round. I’m going to spray my pan with non-stick cooking spray. We’ll set that aside for now. You just want to chop your apples or you can slice them. So, I’m going to add these chopped apples to a mixing bowl. And then we’re going to coat them in a little bit of lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar. Okay, you only need about 2 tepoon of lemon juice. So, I’m just going to do half a lemon. I have two tablespoons of granulated sugar and almost a full teaspoon of cinnamon. So, we’ll just give that a mix. We want to coat those apples in the cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice. And then we’re going to pour it in the bottom of our prepared baking dish. Okay. So, I don’t have to mess up another bowl. I’m going to use that to make my topping. Want one cup of brown sugar. I’m using light brown sugar. You could use light or dark. 3/4 cup of old-fashioned oats. 3/4 cup of allpurpose flour. Now, this was a 3/4 cup measuring cup. Then, we want a full teaspoon of cinnamon. Just give that a stir. Now, I’m going to use a pastry blender and cut in a half a cup of cold butter. Now, you can get in there with your hands if you want to. It’s perfectly okay. Cut that butter end until the pieces are about pa sized. You can get in there with your hands and feel to see if all of them are broken down enough. And that’s kind of what you want right there. All right. Now, I’m going to put this over the apples. We’re just going to kind of evenly sprinkle it over the apples. I almost think you need an 11 by8 pan for this. I think a 8 by8 would be a little bit too small. Okay, now we’re going to put it into a 350° oven and bake it for 40 to 50 minutes. And we want it to be golden brown on top and bubbly. Right out of the oven. Delicious. Crunchy, bubbly apple crisp. Okay, now for the taste test of the hot apple crisp. I’m serving it alongside a little vanilla ice cream with some caramel syrup on top. M. This is by far my favorite apple dessert and it will be yours too. the soft, delicious, warm apples and it makes its own juices and forms a syrup in there with the crunchy topping with the oats and butter on top and that warm cinnamon flavor. It is the best. You absolutely need to try this. Thank you for joining me today as we made this easy apple dessert. This will be a winner in your house and you’ll be making it again and again. I love a good apple crisp or crumble❤
We live in apple country – the northwest side of Michigan is very agricultural, particularly apples and cherries. We just had harvest season, with a local apple festival. I love love a good apple crisp, warm with vanilla ice cream that melts a little in the bowl…now I need to make!
