STOP! Cornbread is NOT Stuffing. It’s DRESSING.

This is the holiday debate you need to settle before Thanksgiving dinner! I’m breaking down the real difference between stuffing and dressing.

Here’s the quick truth: Stuffing is made with breadcrumbs or cubed bread. Dressing is made with cornbread or cornmeal. They taste completely different and are made with different main ingredients! Technically, anything cooked inside the bird is stuffing, but don’t let that distract you from the essential cornbread difference!

Did you think that stuffing and dressing was the same thing? Come with me. I’ll show you what to do. Stuffing is made with breadcrumbs like these. They can be plain, they can be seasoned. You can take your own bread and dice it up, toast it, and make your own stuffing. Stuffing has a different taste. It’s more bread, but it is made from bread crumbs. Stuffing recipes do not have cornmeal in them. Dressing, on the other hand, has cornmeal. You can stuff anything in a bird and it will be stuffing. It is not stuffing because it’s stuffed in the bird. It is the process of which it is made and the ingredients of which it is made of.

  1. My family comes from Savannah Georgia, we always use cornmeal to stuff our turkeys. We called it dressing, not stuffing. Pam you are correct on your explanation.

  2. They are definitely not the same. I grew up eating dressing. I prefer dressing over stuffing. They are both good though.

  3. I remember as a young girl, my mom allowing me to use a knife to cut bread to make stuffing. I never ate stuffing. I didn't like soggy bread. But I loved the time I got to spend with my Mom. 😊🥰

  4. Let ‘em know Pam! It’s 2025, time to set the record straight 💯. And DON’T use no SWEET cornbread mix (i.e. Jiffy, etc. 🤮🤮)

  5. Thank you!! We know who makes stuffing and who makes dressing! Huge, huge difference. I did see someone attempt to make dressing with no seasonings or eggs

  6. I’m a dressing girl myself and they taste totally different I don’t like stuffing at all

  7. I don't know. I heard "stuffing" was actually put in the bird, and dressing was made and NOT put inside the bird. Personally, I really don't care. We always called it stuffing, so it's stuffing.

That said, good for you getting the best kind – Pepperidge Farm!

  8. My favorite was my grandmother’s. It had bread and potato in it but I never got the recipe 😟

  9. So, todau we trend by mizing the 2, Missy. Delixioua combination.

  12. 😅 Yes I have to admit I thought stuffing was called stuffing because it was stuffed in the bird😅 Much Love Aunt Pam💜

  13. In my area not many put cornbread in stuffing OR dressing. We call it STUFFING if it is STUFFED in the bird and DRESSING if it is not. Every area of the Country has their own foods that are part of their culture. Yours is not the be-all and end-all to stuffing and dressing. I will continue to call it STUFFING if it is STUFFED in a bird, and DRESSING if it is not. And it won't have cornmeal. In my world it IS called stuffing BECAUSE it is stuffed in the bird. We're both right.

  14. I mix the two and what they see is what they get. If they eat it, they eat it. If they don’t…well I’ll eat it.

  15. Again, aren't ur viewers AMERICANS , why would they need a tutorial in stuffing…um.
Anchovies maybe an interesting item ..show us how to prepare them.

    I'll wait!!

  16. I like it the way my mother-in-law from Connecticut makes it with the chunky stuffing mix. And I like it the way my mom makes it with the southern cornbread way. Both are great with gravy lol I make whichever one I feel like making or whatever I have the ingredients for at the time. This past weekend I just made a cornbread chicken casserole with gravy and cranberry mashed potatoes, roasted sweet potatoes, cream, corn, green beans, and sweet potatoes. ❤

  17. I’ve never had corn bread dressing. I’m thinking about doing it this year!!! But I’m on the fence because what if I don’t like it..

  18. She is wrong. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

    stuffing

    noun

    stuff·ing ˈstə-fiŋ

    Synonyms of stuffing

: material used to stuff or fill: such as

    a

: a soft material (such as cotton or polyester) used to fill upholstered furniture, cushions, bedding, etc.

    b

: a seasoned mixture (as of bread crumbs, vegetables, and butter) that is typically placed inside the cavity of a turkey, pepper, etc. and cooked

So if it is stuffed into the bird, it is stuffing, regardless of what it is made from. Dressing is cooked separately, in its own pan. That said, cornbread dressing is vile.

  19. "Stuffing" literally just means it was cooked in the turkey. Dressing is cooked in a pan, regardless of whether it is cooked with stale bread/bread crumbs or cornbread. There's a reason why we specify cornbread dressing when referring to dressing made with cornbread – because it's not the only breading that is used to make proper dressing.

  20. I always thought the two had the same ingredients. If it was put inside the turkey, it’s called stuffing. If it’s baked in a pan, it’s dressing.
