I love making pizza. But I don’t really like eating anymore. A little over 2 years ago I started making pizza, doing pop ups, and spend some time working at a pizzeria, and even made pizza at the OneBite Pizza Fest in NYC. I’ve eaten so much pizza in the last two years that I hardly enjoy it anymore. Making an aesthetic & well structured pizza is 100x more enjoyable to me than eating it. Even when I go to famous pizzerias, most of the time my reaction is: I’d rather eat a burger or some orange chicken.

Too much of a good thing. I sure most chefs feel like this, especially chefs who essentially create variations of the same dish.

My uncle has been in the pizza business for 20+ years and I definitely have heard that same sentiment from him from time to time. It seems to me like he doesn’t really care for the pizza he makes anymore but I’ve noticed he enjoys eating at other pizza places to experience their take on pizza.

I’m very worried for you. Have you mentioned this to your therapist?

I make two to three pizzas a week and I have been starting to feel this way. I’m wondering if bbq or buffalo chicken or even a vodka chicken parm pie will bring back some excitement! I did a pretty nice Sicilian last week, that’s always a fun way to mix it up.

Happened to me once upon a time, working at a pizza shop over an over a decade ago. After a number of years later I opened a hotdog cart and opened up to pizza again. Now it’s hard to eat a dog.🐕

Sounds like it’s time to spend a few months over on r/hotdogs!

Try different crust style, different cheese, sauce.

Gotta get some toppings on there too my dude!

Don’t settle on one recipe, and keep trying new flours and methods! I was growing bored too when I kept to the same recipe, but the dough just keeps getting better and better.

You’ll start to crave it more

About 8 years ago I was a full time beer sommelier and wherever I got there were then gourmet burgers (eu). I ate so many that I could not eat and enjoy them until last year. I still don’t truly do, so yeah, there is something like too much of a good thing.

  12. I worked in a pizza joint for 5 years in late college/after college. It burned me out on pizza until I was in my 30s. In my 50s now and I love it again. I sometimes still make it just for the art but my love of za is forever.

  13. This is very sad to hear. I would suggest to not eat pizza for 6-8 months maybe even a year and then try a slice again. I think you just need some extended time away.

I miss eating pizza, finding out you have a dairy allergy while you’re addicted to cheese sucks

Oh no! That’s actually really sad to me. Pizza is such a perfect food and I can’t imagine how it would feel to not still absolutely love tasting and eating it. It’s such a delicious and enjoyable food.

worked for a long time in movie theaters. i can tell the difference between good and bad popcorn. can the average person? i feel like subliminally yes, but consciously they don’t clock it.

that said, after all that time, truly great popcorn is still maybe the best tasting snack in the world. maybe pizza isn’t the same, or maybe it’s just a you thing, op

I went to the same situation! I made and test so many pizzas trying to perfect my recipe. It kinda made me numb all good pizzas. This obsession gotten to the point where I preferred eating pizzas like little Ceaser’s pizzas a lot more lol

I giving your self a break is always good 👍

  18. I make pizza often but I’ve never been in love with pizza eating. I enjoyed a good pizza occasionally but it was really just something cheap for me to eat. If it was a food that I really loved I’d probably never truly get tired of it.

Not unusual at all. As a home cook I go in deep dive phases all the time. Make nothing but stirfry for a few weeks and then not again for a lot least a year kinda thing. This year was food from Turkiye.

  20. If you dont like pizza anymore, try another pizza…. thats the thing of pizza, you can do anything with it…

  21. I am making pizza from time to time, just home cooking, nothing fancy. But when I have 3 or more pizza days in row I have enough, I must have at least month break from pizza.

open your own pizzeria and let other people eat it

That pizza needs more time in the oven. Well done or nothing! Lol
