Fruit releases ethylene when ripping. Put your avocados with some bananas in a bag, close it, they will rip faster.
Edit to say: bananas and apples release a lot of ethylene gas, so they fasten other fruits ripen.

Stop cutting the pit in half. WTF. That’s the craziest avocado-related thing I’ve ever seen.
Slice around the pit then twist to separate. Use a knife or spook to remove the pit.
If you still find avocados too hard, then do the paper bag thing.

In the future, buy ripened ones if you want to use right away.

Soo…What you’re looking for in an avocado depends on when you’re going to use it. If you want a ripe one to use on the same day, the skin should be greenish brown, the stem stub should easily come off, and it should be green underneath. If you’re going to use it in a few days, put it in a paper bag with a banana.

Avocados are tricksters.

You’ll know it’s ripened when it’s getting soft and you can press down on the tip of it. Don’t just cut it if it’s still hard!
