I made tuna sandwiches for the family and I feel like something's missing. What do you put in your tuna? I started with 4 large (drained) cans of albacore tuna in water and a dozen diced up hard boiled eggs. I added finely diced white onion, mayo, mustard, horseradish, dill, celery salt, black pepper, and paprika. I usually mix in shredded cheese (but forgot) so I will do that with the leftovers before lunch tomorrow and see if it tastes more like it usually does. Anyhow, what do you add that I didn't?

I’m usually too lazy to do it myself but I like a little crunch with my tuna mush. So either chopped up celery or crispy lettuce. The green makes it look a bit more alive too

Lemon zest/juice, sunflower seeds are things I like. And scallions.

Agreed with other comments about something crunchy. Sliced celery would work well, honestly you could even do slices of cucumber and that would give it a nice fresh crunch. I don’t make tuna salad often, but when I do chicken salad, I add green onions to it as well for something a little fresher and with a little crunch to it. Definitely toast the bread.

    More mustard, chopped pickles/peppers/capers.

  5. I would suggest half of the amount of tuna and add the same amount of iceberg lettuce. ♡♡♡

My secret is I always add breadcrumb. It soaks up some of the leftover water.

Pickle relish! Just a dab. A little goes a long way.

might sound weird but my fiancee puts cumin in tuna mayo and it’s legit the best

Lemon juice, something pickled, Worcestershire sauce

  10. I’m pretty basic; mayo, mustard, relish and maybe some diced onion. Toast the bread and you can sprinkle some diced chives on the cross section for some color.

Hear me out, do a batch with just mayo and maybe a little salt, see if it scratches a comfort itch, then start adding things back in slowly.

I used to put lots of stuff in my tuna salad but now I’m in a purist phase – tuna, mayo, maybe salt, MAYBE celery if it was already in the fridge

Green onion instead of white, and finely diced celery instead of the celery salt. It will give some colour and a bit more texture

Add some finely chopped celery for color and crunch

I like to add some dijon mustard, diced pickles, chives, celery seed, and kalamata olives. And pickled red onions and sprouts on top if I have them.

  15. Preface to my opinion: I am generally not a big fan of tuna salad.

That said, my opinion: the tuna salads that I *have* enjoyed have a vegetal crunch of some sort, usually sliced celery, mixed in.

You can eliminate the celery salt if you’re worried about it leaning too far into that direction… I’d replace them with poppy seeds!

Edit: I forgot chopped dill pickles! That and celery, poppy seeds, maybe chili flakes would be my recommendation!

Dill pickles chopped, red onion, lettuce, chipotle mayo

  17. If you like avocado, add like half to a full avocado to replace some of the mayo. It goes really well with tuna.

Omg I GOT YOU. A citrusy hot sauce, tons of capers, and lemon zest!! And add in a layer of arugula or spring mix for some greens and crunch. 😍

Slice of preferred cheese, thick slice of big ass tomato, crunchy lettuce, and chips of any kind , but I prefer classic lays. Served with a bowl of basic ramen, (maruchan or Top ramen) and you’ve got my “I’m home sick” meal. But I could easily eat this any time. It’s my comfort food.

Crucify me but, buffalo sauce is always on the side of anything tuna when i have it.

I haven’t seen anyone mention the giant quantity of eggs in this tuna salad. Is it even a tuna salad when there’s more egg than tuna? It doesn’t sound like the worst but never heard of that being normal.

  22. Lemon or lime juice, green crunch, capers and wasabi

  23. Foreign_Building6686

diced up celery, pickles, red onion (not white, its a lot sharper), fresh black pepper, and a little pickle juice from the jar or relish 🥰

I think it looks good. I personally like tomatoes, pickles and raw onions on my tuna fish sandwiches. and maybe a slice of provolone or Swiss. never heard of putting shredded cheese in tuna fish, but hey, why not

Added chopped green apple. A little tartness and crunch goes a long way. Plus mustard seeds. Awesome.
