So I’m standing there, pumping my gas at the dang gas station and a seemingly nice gentleman walks up behind me.
“excuse me, sir, I have a strange question. By any chance would you be interested in buying some premium steaks?”
He explained how he is a contractor for a premium meat distributor that deals to some of the good steakhouses in town. They were on the way back from a lighter than anticipated sale and would have to pay a restocking fee for the meat they did not move.
He grabbed a box of 4 ribeye steaks after I filled my tank. I took a look and saw beautiful cuts – flash frozen with nice marbling.
After considering:
-The official branding on the van clamming 50 years of business
-Their website offering expensive meat delivery -The legit but tattered flier with the dude’s personal cell written in pen
-His freezer burn replacement guarantee
I left with 3 boxes of product and spent $300.
Just made the second steak over polenta and although my crust could’ve been better I am feeling very happy with the gas station risk.

Totally normal. Not remotely suspicious. I’m solicited with steaks all the time when I pump my gas.

Every time I’m involved with a van at a gas station, they usually offering me candy and trying to get me inside.
This has happened to me and my sister in our neighborhood with someone claiming their trucks refrigerator was starting to go. We bought about 300 dollars worth but honestly the price per pound for these frozen steaks were comparable (higher even) to getting something at our local butcher and the frozen steaks were much thinner and I’d rather pay people I know than some rando who talks about disco golf while trying to offload shitty ny strips.
You might have gotten a different experience cuz that cook looks great but idk I’m very wary of these types of things now after having 2 not great experiences buying frozen meat

Nothing weird about this whole situation. I’ve seen this in my town and others in the state. Not very often. Same thing though it’s a family owned ranch and they have “premium” meats. They are mainstays at the cities farmers market and I’ve bought some steaks from there before and they were good, better than Omaha Steaks. But I suppose sometimes they don’t make their typical sales and I’ve seen them at the gas stations trying to offload their inventory.

Yeah door-to-door meat sales. This dude probably worked for Capital meats or some of the other companies that sell steaks and seafood and other stuff door-to-door I know because I did it for one summer lol. It was awful
