Was on a boat with friends yesterday and some absolute gems were opened. The Barolo happened after at Cotogna. Good times.

2011 Roagna Barolo
Earthy and structured with dark cherry, tar, and truffle notes wrapped in firm but elegant tannins.

2021 Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero
Perfumed and silky with red berry, rose, and spice—beautifully lifted and ethereal even in youth.

1974 Stag’s Leap
Mature and graceful with cedar, dried currant, and tobacco showing remarkable depth and balance.

1960 Heitz Cellar Pinot Noir
Delicate and surprisingly alive with faded cherry, tea leaf, pure California history in a glass.

2020 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne
Rich yet precise with lemon curd, hazelnut, and chalk minerality, power and finesse in perfect balance.

  1. Surprising that pinot survived. Never had anything older than 1980 that didn’t taste more like sawdust than wine. Glad you guys got to try one that held up from such a great producer!

Love burlotto, bought a 18 acclivi last week looking forward to open it soon!

  4. gotta appreciate that yacht life! i’m surprised that Burlotto was so lifted at this stage. All the Burlottos i’ve drunk needed many more years to open up.
