The Nantucket Intermediate School has launched its annual food drive durin ghte month of November to benefit the Nantucket Food Pantry.

“In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our school will be collecting food and dry goods to donate to the Food Pantry,” fourth-grade teacher George MacLellan wrote in a message to the school community. “In spring 2023, NIS donated 721 pounds in one week! In fall 2023, NIS collected 801 pounds! In November 2024, we set a goal of 1,000 pounds. It felt like a mountain to climb, but we were determined to help families, friends, classmates, and neighbors in our community. We beat our goal and donated 1,237 pounds! The NIS Food Drive is a team effort of students and teachers of grades 3, 4, and 5. This is a voluntary activity with a goal of involving students and families in helping a great local cause. We know that when we do good, we feel good!”

All NIS students will be contributing to the food drive by decorating bags for Stop & Shop, which will help promote the drive across Nantucket and remind the community to make contributions.
