I ordered several sets of tins straight from Amanoshidate and had them delivered to my hotel in Japan: https://takenaka-kanzume.co.jp/en/

Generally, I was able to find 2 varieties (usually scallops plus a fish tin) at department store basement grocery stores in Sapporo and Tokyo, but I recommend ordering with Google Translate online if you want the full line on your next trip. The green label are tins in olive oil and I didn’t see that in any store.

These contributed greatly to my checked luggage weight so plan accordingly!

Such beautiful packaging! Happy eating! (I hope you’re eating a lot of fresh seafood there, too! 😉)

Will they make it through customs with no issue?

  4. That is some gorgeous art-realistic woodblock is such a vibe. I wish these were available in the US, I’ll have to check the Japanese import shops the next time I’m in DC.

I’ve yet to try the okigisu one, but the all the others are good or great. My favorites are the oysters (kaki) and the niji wakasagi (rainbow smelt).
