New cloves are going to be a kick to the face compared to the ones I've been baking with from the Bush administration.

for the life of me i have not been able to figure out the new mccormick caps. i must be an idiot, because i can clearly see from your picture that it pops up. i recently bought a mccormick spice for something and bashed open the lid to use it 🤣 i am used to twist-off ones that have the plastic sprinkler lid underneath.

A couple of years ago while going through the spice cabinet we discovered we had a bottle of sprinkles that was old enough to vote. I’m sure we’ve got some spices that are a few years shy of being able to run for president.

I have 2 or 3 versions that are in between the ones you have also 😅

It always feels wasteful, but I try to be pretty aggressive about tossing and re-buying spices after a couple years at most. I don’t think I’ve ever used an entire jar of bay leaves before replacing them, lol.

I have spices that are 10+ years old too. I don’t have money to replace all of my spice that I don’t use that frequently, but might need a little bit for a recipe. I love seeing the difference in the label designs too. I like the update because you can see the contents of the jar better.

I have multiple that have the old look still in the basement with all my extra spices 😭

The last time we visited my grandparents for thanksgiving at their home (just before covid) we found spices in their cabinets from late 80s early 90s. I don’t understand how anyone could not go through one container of seasoning/spices in over 20 years.

I used the last of my similar cloves last year. Wish I had kept the old jar for member berries.

My dad has cinnamon from West Germany. The wall went down when I was born.

  10. Hah my mom still has quite a few of these in her pantry

Those bottles on the left are the ones I grew up with in the cupboards, they’re so nostalgic.

I regularly buy new spices to ensure they are always fresh. Some I go through quickly so I don’t have to worry about chucking them, like cinnamon. I probably go through 2 bottles a year.

The new designs… **you can’t open them to take the seal off** I’m able bodied and have to do some crazy shit to finally open them, not buying anymore mccormick

Wish I could post images in responses!I’ve got some ancient ones.

I think I recognize those from my in-laws spice drawer! Lol

  16. Last year we did a full tear out of our kitchen. Some of the odd and rarely used spices (that were thrown out) were purchased in the early to mid-90’s. I know this because it was a brand from the state I’m from, not the one I’ve lived in since the late 90’s.

I also had McCormick bottles from that generation. Pretty sure that means my white pepper is 20 years old.

I stopped buying McCormick after their stuff came back positive for lead. They did a lottttt of legal loop holes and PR to get the case dismissed and regain trust. But not enough for me.

I need to tell a family member the spices in their cabinet are severely expired.

That’s so you know when to throw the old ones out

i like their old design so much better, it’s so nostalgic for me

love that they put the name in bold letters on the lid. Our spices are in a drawer and I use a label maker but don’t need to for these.

Did your original cloves have any flavour left???

  23. TheObesePolice

I have many of these older containers because I buy loose spices & just refill them with the new stuff. There’s a weird comfort in opening the spice cabinet & seeing a rack filled with containers from the 1970s – 80s. It’s like a mini time machine

  24. Good guy McCormick bucking the minimalism trend

  25. ocean_800

Thats how many cloves you used in 20 years?? 😂

you can also freeze them! thats what I do to spices that I dont use often. …My cloves are probably 6 years old now so perhaps im not one to talk lol

Yeah you’re gonna want to keep those in the back of your pantry because I’ve got a game for you 😂 We play it every year at my mom’s on Christmas. All the adult children get an allotted time (usually 60-90 seconds) to go through her kitchen…refrigerator, cabinets and pantry and whoever finds the oldest/most expired food product wins a special present from my mom. It’s been a family favorite for years, my mom doesn’t throw out anything 🙄
