The Embassy of Italy in Madrid, in collaboration with Coldiretti, the Real Academia de Gastronomía and the Accademia della Cucina Italiana, has convened the event “Flavors in Dialogue: the Mediterranean Diet as a Shared Heritage between Italy and Spain,” dedicated to the promotion of the Mediterranean diet as a model of health, culture and sustainability, recognized by UNESCO, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. in the Residence.
Through two panel discussions and a final gastronomic experience, the initiative,” reads a note, “intends to highlight the common roots and synergies between Italy and Spain, countries that share one of the world’s most appreciated food traditions.
Opening the event will be Italy’s ambassador to Madrid, Giuseppe Buccino, the president of the Real Academia de Gastronomía, Luis Suárez de Lezo, Luigi Scordamaglia, managing director of Filiera Italia and head of Coldiretti’s markets, internationalization and community policies area, and Maurizio Di Ubaldo, president of Casa Abruzzo and the Academy of Italian Cuisine. The first panel will be dedicated to the cultural and health value of the Mediterranean diet as a way of life, with speeches by Stefano Pisani, spokesperson for the UNESCO Emblematic Community of the Mediterranean Diet, and Gregorio Varela Moreiras, professor of Nutrition and Bromatology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the San Pablo-CEU University of Madrid.
The second panel will feature representatives of the agribusiness sector committed to promoting sustainable supply chains and local excellence: Cristina Brizzolari, founder of Riso Buono, and Francisco Vañó, Ceo of Grupo Castillo de Canena.
The evening will conclude with a ‘dialogue’ tasting by chefs Marcello Spadone, Juanjo López and Giuseppe Ferraro, who will take the audience on a sensory journey between Italy and Spain, weaving innovation and tradition through the flavors of the Mediterranean.
The event will be held in Spanish with simultaneous translation.
