Not really into grills. I just know these are expensive and it popped up on my Facebook marketplace. I’ve been wanting a grill for a while. Is this worth the 100 dollars they’re asking for?

If so, please tell me where I might be able to get a new grate and hinge for the lid. TIA

Assuming there are no cracks or integrity issues with the shell ceramics then absolutely. A burn will clean the interior, the rest of the parts are easily replaceable if needed.

Worth it! Measure the diameter and grab from Amazon

  3. Big Green Egg? Absolutely. Just give it a little tlc.

  4. Other than some idiosyncrasies old eggs are basically the same as new eggs and with some lovin’ you could make this into basically a new egg.

Order a new band kit, REggulator cap, and gaskets. Give the exterior a good cleaning, good clean burn for the interior. Check out Captain Ron’s videos on the Fogo YouTube channel for howtos on the above.

Yes but you may have to invest a few bucks in parts. Everything there is replaceable. If the outside is not cracked that’s great. You may have to install a new hinge ($150 if I recall). Even if the inside fire box and ring are cracked and in 2 or 3 pieces you don’t have to replace them. But you can.

It’s definitely worth it. You can probably get the hinges and be grates ordered through your neighborhood Ace Hardware. Jump on it, they are fun to cook in!!

If the halves are not cracked or chipped that’s a steal

Edit, as an aside, I need to find some of the good second-hand grill fortune I keep seeing on Reddit

The stand is worth $100. Consider the egg free.

Anecdotally – I’ve gone through several gas/propane grills (not the ultra cheap ones that sit out front of HD, Weber higher on their line card…def last longer). Ballpark those are 10-15 yrs before needing swap out.

The Egg – zero doubt that’ll be handed down to my kid. And as long as he doesn’t drop it, his kids.

Now their kids, they’ll probably be claimed in the climate wars…but at least they’ll have some fantastic Pulled Pork.

  9. I would recommend the original big green egg party for the hinge and [The Ceramic Grill Store](https://ceramicgrillstore.com/) for a grate system.

Poke around big green egg groups for a bit. To familiarize yourself with how they work. These types of grills are called Kamados generically and they do work differently than a hibachi, Weber, propane, or other smokers.

I already know this is not in my area because these kind of bargains never pop up. It’s always somewhere else haha.

  11. As long as there are no structural cracks in the BGE, that’s a great price. Get off the internet and go buy it.

Looks like you’ll need to buy the bands/hinge component but even with that, you’re looking at a great deal.

Don’t worry about any mold or built up grease inside, one clean burn will take care of everything.

  12. No it’s not but send me the address and l will go do research for you.

Ceramic Grill Store is a great place for accessories / replacement parts.

Update: He unfortunately has already sold this. Never responded to my message either.

I’m going to do some research on these , sounds like a solid investment! Thanks for the help!

Worth scooping up!!! Jump on this deal. Just remember that you will need help moving it as it is heavy as hell. Wonderful grills!!!!!!

You probably don’t need a new grate, that one looks like it would clean up nicely.

If not, you can get that and the hinge replacement at a local dealer. Check the BGE “find a dealer” page on their website.

Failing that, parts and accessories can also be found relatively easily online.

100 is an absolute STEAL for this. I might feel bad taking it from someone at that price. I’d still do it, but I might feel bad.

I’m my view, easily worth it.

Refurbish it for another $100. If you don’t like it, resell it after refurbishing for $400.

I’ve had one since 1998. Still works just fine. I like it.

An absolute steal, however “Not really into grills.” may mean you’re not into repairing it, maintaining it, or moving a 219lb object. I’d suggest looking for a lightly used Weber, you’ll get one for like $10-$20

  22. DrInsomnia

You need to understand what you are committing to. If you aren’t into grilling, or smoking, this might not be for you. Also that set-up there weighs a few hundred pounds, and moving it is going to be a risky undertaking.

But as others have noted, if it’s not cracked, it’s an absolute steal.
