Bought this from Wine House in LA for what I consider a fair price. I mainly got it as a sentimental gift, as I visited Vougeraie in 2011. There isn’t too much online on the potential peak of tasting this wine, so any guidance will be appreciated.

  1. 2005 was a great and long lived vintage. It’s 20 years old now and life is short….pop the cork and keep the empty as a keepsake.

  2. Recent notes on CellarTracker indicate it may be at or around peak (or even just past, which doesn’t mean it’s gone off). You can hold another 3-5 years for a special occasion (as grand cru burg it’s unlikely to fall off a cliff), or find that occasion this holiday season.

The vintage seems to be a good one for Burgundy. That said I would guess it would great to drink now, or anytime in the next 5/10 years potentially. You picked a good vintage to save. I hope you drink it in good health.

  4. Just opened a Henri Gouges Clos de Porrets ’05. It’s not a grand cru, but it is a monopole and it had plenty of life left in it. It was in a terrific place though. Pull the cork. Enjoy.

It can definitely go another 3-5, a lot of 2005s aren’t ready.

Opening ’05 Burgundy now requires a lot of self loathing
