I recently discovered this sub so I thought Id post about some places I went to this year. This first one is called “One Fish Raw Bar” in Campbell/San Jose. I dont think its been posted here before and its more of a local hidden gem and doesnt have any big accolades I know of.
The cooking here is always very good and they focus on using local fresh ingredients. While the menu changes daily and they post it online 1 hour before opening, its honestly usually very similar and doesn’t excite me too much. However they do sometimes have special dinners, such as the mushroom dinner from this post, and that adds that extra layer of innovation and interest to their constant good quality and cooking.
So in this meal every thing except for the cornbread (which is like their signature they always have) has mushrooms incorporated into it. Did every item really “need” or get enhanced by the mushrooms? No and not every single element was a hit (as always with tasting menus) but a lot of it was quite good and interesting. My favorite was the cod dish, which is like that square thing with dots on it in the second to last photo, which was very soft on the inside (possibly too soft for some people but I really enjoyed it) and very crispy on the outside with an extra crunch from the dot things which I have forgotten what they were.
The meal was $125 per person which I thought was very reasonable and I quite enjoyed it overall. Id say their normal menu is worth trying once to get a feel for it and see if you like the style, and their special menus are always worth checking out.

Looks good.
Though they’ve chosen a clearly inaccurate name for their restaurant.
OMG! Hello fellow One Fish Raw Bar lover! We went to that mushroom dinner as well. We thought it was delicious, and how fun to see your pictures.
Definitely a hidden gem with great food and very friendly, neighborhood service. Highly recommend going if you are ever staying in San Jose or anywhere in the South Bay.
