It was a short run for the Italian-American restaurant Johnny & Sanny’s.

After just six months in downtown Mountain View, Johnny & Sanny’s permanently closed Sunday, owner Gianni Chiloiro confirmed. The team is redirecting its efforts to the expansion of Doppio Zero, another of Chiloiro’s restaurants, with new locations coming to downtown Livermore and Westfield Galleria at Roseville.

Johnny & Sanny’s space at 110 Castro St. will now be used exclusively for private events, including for Doppio Zero, according to Chiloiro.

Johnny & Sanny’s, named after owners Chiloiro and Angelo Sannino, launched May 2. The menu was inspired by the Italian restaurants Chiloiro worked at in the 1980s – think Cobb salad, meatballs and cioppino. The concept replaced their Spanish restaurant Vida Tapas Y Cocteles, which closed after two years due to a lack of business.

Located just three doors down from the now-closed Johnny & Sanny’s, Doppio Zero specializes in Neapolitan pizza and southern Italian cuisine. In addition to its Mountain View restaurant, Doppio Zero has locations in Concord, San Carlos, San Francisco and Campbell.
