My first ever 100 point arrived today! Bethel Heights “The High Wire” Chardonnay 2023.
This one made the news this year as Decanter’s first 100 point score for an Oregon Chardonnay; Decanter’s only 100 point 2023 Chardonnay and the first wine (in over 4,000+) that Decanter’s North American Editor Clive Pursehouse has given a 100-point rating.
Excited to try it! A little concerned that it took five days to ship during a heat wave in Southern California. Most of the time it was in the 60s-low 70s, but yesterday reached 84 (and the ice pack wasn’t cold when it arrived today). Hoping it was harmed!

my first thought was “the 100 point scale is dumb AF and 20 years out of date” BUT i love your enthusiasm and I also love Bethel Heights. I’ve never tasted this cuvee from them but if any wine deserves 100 points (bleh) I’m willing to believe that they could make it. I really hope it survived travel (I’m sure its fine from what you posted) and that you enjoy the hell out of it. I need to learn to embrace peoples enthusiasm more than i indulge my pessimism 🙂 Enjoy the wine!
Who cares about points? Just enjoy the wine for what it is.
Bethel Heights is legit.
I just had the High Wire two weeks ago!
Although, I have to say, I actually enjoy their Casteel Chardonnay even more — and it is cheaper. Have you tried both?
I give 0 thought to the subjective and arbitrary point systems. But I hope the wine was good!
Such a great wine and winemaker
wonder how much they paid for those points
As a fellow Southern Californian, I think it is fine; as a fellow wine lover, hoping it is fine! Best of luck!
