Ego at The Star Inn, in Kingsclere, has transformed the former Vintage Inns pub, which dates back to the 1840s, with a fresh new look, including a welcoming dining space, refreshed bar, and an updated patio and terraced area.

Ego, the Mediterranean restaurant and bar group, added it to their 32 other venues, mostly in the Midlands, North West and Yorkshire, last week, promising to bring ‘a slice of the Mediterranean’ to Hampshire for the first time.

Dishes on the menu include the Stone-baked Garlic Pizza Bread With Mozzarella, Coquilles St Jacques which features scallops and king prawns in a rich cheese sauce and Calamari Fritti.

Six days a week, the lunch menu features a range of pub classics including Salmon and Dill Fishcakes, Spaghetti Carbonara and Spiced Chicken Wrap.

On Sundays, the traditional roast dinner includes a 150 Day Grain-Fed Roast Beef, Roast Lamb Rump and Sun-Dried Tomato Nut Roast.

For dessert, guests can choose from a tasty selection including Raspberry and Almond Frangipane Tart, Callebaut White Chocolate & Raspberry Crème Brulé or Lemon Tart.

An impressive cocktail and mocktail menu features Lemon Drizzle, a sweeter take on an Amaretto sour, or the non-alcoholic favourite Apple and Elderflower Fizz.

The restaurant and bar area seats 128 covers with an additional 32 covers in the patio and terraced areas.

General Manager Craig Harding, said: “We’re excited to bring a slice of the Mediterranean to Kingsclere. Whether it’s sipping a spritz on the terrace or sharing paella with friends, we want every visit to feel like a little escape – full of atmosphere, flavour, and warm hospitality.”

The Star Inn has a rich history dating back to its establishment between 1844 and 1847. Originally built as a working farm, it was later transformed into a pub by its first . It retains its rustic charm, now blended with contemporary interiors.
