SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio District 8 showed appreciation for federal employees affected by the government shutdown by partnering with a local restaurant to provide free meals on Wednesday.

With the help of Pasha Mediterranean Grill, more than 100 TSA officers and air traffic control staff were treated to a free meal.

“This was just our way of giving back,” District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez said. “We know our federal employees have gone through a lot this last month and a half, and so we were trying to figure out what to do.”

On Wednesday night, the House passed a bill to end the nation’s longest government shutdown, sending the measure to President Donald Trump.

Bilal Deiri, co-owner of Pasha, said he hopes the community can support one another during difficult times.

“Everyone always needs help, right? So, our turn will come when we’ll need something, and you know, we just hope that people can pitch in just like we’re doing now,” Deiri said.
