Hey all, I have not used my slow cooker for over a year and I want to get back into cooking with it. When i had a look at the heating element it looked dirty like in the photo. What’s a good way to clean it if necessary to clean it for its use?

I’ve had mine for over 15 years and I’ve never bothered cleaning that part.

You’ll have to try out a few methods and report back since you will likely be the first person to ever clean that spot.  Keep us posted!

Best advice – don’t. Far too much danger of water damage and once water gets in the element will be clean and new because you’ll have to replace the slow cooker.

I’m just gonna pile on… don’t. That’s the best thing to do.

Your food is not ever going to touch the heating element. You can do way more harm than good here.

Get a dishtowel slightly wet with warm water and set it in there for about half an hour, it should wipe up easily.

What’s the point? It doesn’t touch the food

  7. If you must clean it do this:

sprinkle on some baking soda on the dirtiest parts

get a hard bristle toothbrush for like a couple dollars from a dollar store

wet the toothbrish in the sink

then use the damp toothbrush and scrub the baking soda to remove the grime

You’ll have to wipe the dirty baking soda away with a paper towel and repeat the process

doing it this way let’s you use a baking soda paste to clear the grime without using too much water and potentially damaging the heating element

to be on the safe side after you’re finished wiping everything wait at least 24 hours before using the slow cooker again

Damn you should see what mine looks like (after repeated attempts to tell my roommate not to overfill it)
