Thrifty Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Got at local Kroger for $4.99 on sale. Who remembers going into Rite-Aid and ordering scoop or cone with single or double? Go to was two scoops cup with Chocolate Chip and Mint and Chip. Tastes exactly like I remember. Nostalgia! What was your go-to order?

The ice cream itself is nothing to write home about, but it tastes like nostalgia!

Thrifty rainbow sherbet was always my favorite 😁 and mint chip but not together!

This brand isn’t sold where I live now, but the chocolate malted krunch was my favorite when I was a kid.

  6. I’m so old I remember going into Thrify for a scoop. Chocolate Malted Crunch was the GOAT!

Yes, this was the first ice cream I ever remember trying! When I was a kid in the ’80s this was my family’s go-to spot for the ice cream counter — and it was actually called Thrifty. I loved the strawberry cheesecake, mint-n-chip, black cherry, maybe rainbow sherbet in the summer. I think Umpqua, a Northwest brand, has the most similar style/texture — for these flavors in particular.

Then we all got into frozen yogurt in the late 80s and seemed to move on — anyone remember Penguin’s? (Maybe it was just a SoCal thing.)

When I was in my 20s I moved near a Rite Aid, and rediscovered the ice cream — a few of my favorites at that time were Chocolate Malted Crunch, Pistachio, Mocha Almond Fudge and there was this one I liked most of all that had pieces of macaroon (the coconut kind, not the French macarons) in it. Maybe it was a coconut base, maybe something else, maybe it had caramel. Am I dreaming all of this? I can’t find it on their flavor page or online. Does anyone remember this flavor or what it was called? Am I thinking of another brand? I would have been getting it in the early 2000s before I moved out of state.

After that, I don’t think I had any Thrifty Ice Cream till maybe five years ago or so till I walked into a Rite Aid and they had a full case of flavors. Unfortunately, they are all closed now here. I see info online about how the ice cream is being sold at some Krogers, Albertsons, Safeways, etc. but I have not seen it at any place I go to. Has anyone in the Portland area seen it?

I like how the chocolate chips are smaller and plenty in every bite
