My Earnest Question: Lid lifted or lid removed entirely?

Whenever I put together a “seacuterie” spread I fully remove all tin lids. They take up space on a crowded board. They’re oily/saucy unless one takes care to clean them up thoroughly. And most of all, they’re sharp-edged, sticking up at odd, curved angles on a tray where guests will be reaching in for tasty things.

And yet, when I see displays with the lids lifted it always looks for appealing. Quite festive.

So, all you entertainers, are you lifters or removers?

That lid lifted thing is pretty in the photographs in an almost pornographic way as it looks like the good stuff is just being revealed.

That said, I would never leave the lid on like that. It is just waiting to slice someone and there is no way to make a charcuterie board sexy if it has someone’s blood dripping on it.
