LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An ‘improvised explosive device’ damaged a restaurant near the Las Vegas Strip overnight on Thursday, police said.
According to police, detectives report that a small explosion happened at Piero’s Italian Cuisine near Convention Center Drive.
Police said the incident happened just after 2 a.m. on Thursday when two men dressed in black, one riding a scooter, arrived at the restaurant. One placed what police described as an “improvised explosive device” near the restaurant.

FOX5 sources said the device appeared to be a gasoline-filled, and was thrown at the porch of the restaurant.
The device was then ignited, and after burning for a few minutes, it detonated, causing damage to the unoccupied restaurant, officials said.

Kevin McMahill, Sheriff of LVMPD, said they didn’t receive reports of the explosion until just after 10:30 a.m., when the restaurant’s cleaning crew arrived for work.
The investigation is being coordinated through Metro police and includes officials from the FBI, ATF, and the LVMPD’s counter-terrorism unit.
McMahill said there was no further threat that investigators were aware of.
“There’s no reason for you to feel like there’s a threat to Las Vegas Boulevard or a threat to individuals within the community,” McMahill said.
