Semi related but I went to a mexican place on the Oregon coast once, I ordered steak fajitas, pretty simple meal. What i got was a small pile of unseasoned steak bits, plain white rice, and a pile of wet black beans fresh from the can. Not a pepper or onion in sight.

  2. Back in my day we had to raise a little Mexico Flag to get sopapillas

Wait, I’m confused. Was it a restuarant *in* new Mexico, a restaurant that serves food local to new Mexico, or a recently established taco eatery?

Feel you brother. Sopapillas are always a crapshoot.

I couldn’t imagine living somewhere that doesn’t have good Mexican food. I’m in Texas and it’s part of our food pyramid along with Steak, Brisket, HEB and Dr Pepper

No. Sopapilla is not made like that. You fill it with some powder, not irregularly throw some chocolate sauce, chantilly and some sprinkles and call it a mexican food.

That’s what you get for not going to Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Round-Up.

Excuse my ignorance, but what are sopapillas? Those look like totopos with chocolate syrup 🤢🤮

I guess that’s why it’s New Mexico. It’s new so it’s still figuring it out

Well idk maybe that’s what they call sopapillas in New Mexico

Where? If this happened in LA, the owners would be run out of town, chased by 10,000 slipper-wielding 5’1” abuelas.

This is what every Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to serves as sopapillas.

When I moved to New Mexico and said I hated sopapillas and my new New Mexican friends told me I was crazy I thought they were crazy.

“Who tf likes crispy tortillas in chocolate sauce? They just taste stale!”

Anyway have you ever had a hot bag of fresh New Mexican sopapillas thrown in your face by an angry 6’ goth man before?

It didn’t hurt but the honey packets he pelted me with after kinda did.

These are, at best, pita chips. How dare anyone call them sopas!

I went to one near me and got served the same thing being called sopapillas. I was unhappy, to say the least…

If I ordered sopapillas and go this, I’d be pretty livid, unless this was clearly described in the item description.
