LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with an ‘improvised explosive device’ explosion that damaged a business near the Las Vegas Strip Thursday.

John Navarro was taken into custody Friday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple charges related to the Nov. 13 incident.

Investigation details

Police said the incident happened just after 2 a.m. on Thursday when two men dressed in black, one riding a scooter, arrived at the restaurant. One placed what police described as an “improvised explosive device” near Piero’s Italian Cuisine and appeared to light a fuse, police said.

Both suspects quickly fled the area, and the package exploded a few minutes later, investigators said. Police identified Navarro as one of the suspects through their investigation.

Charges filed

Navarro faces eight charges including possession, manufacture and disposal of an explosive device, first-degree arson, using an explosive device to damage or destroy property, and conspiracy to commit first-degree arson.

Additional charges include carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen vehicle and operating a vehicle chop shop.
