I love Amarone so I decided to try its Lombardy Nebbiolo cousin. This blew me away. Bold, Tannic, not too acidic. A nice alpine freshness while retaining the depth and lusciousness of apartissimi. Not the most complex I’ve ever tasted but still really great. Fruity but not jammy in my opinion. Full body. Well integrated tannins. Tobacco and some spice on the nose in addition to the fruit. Fruit forward palate but nice secondaries of cocoa, tobacco, rosemary, thyme. Long savory finish. Excellent.

You found the other major region that does the Appassimento method (making bold reds with raisined grapes). Its not the only style you see in Valtellina but it is quite common. Its also a stupidly gorgeous region to visit!
