FYI he is okay and fine, I’m about to crash out though. My Dog fully busted onto my counter and ate my sourdough starter I’ve been creating for 2 months. I always keep it in the same spot and today he decided to ruin my work of 2 months. Thank goodness I actually just bought a 15 year old starter online and I’m hoping it’s not spoiled. I just received it today and refreshed. Does anyone else have a funny story with their pet involved so I can calm my crash out 😭😭😭

I’m glad your dog is ok, broken glass is no joke. Sorry about the starter. But you can remake it!

My story is not as tragic as losing a sourdough starter, but when my husband and I were dating he bought me a box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day. He was very hungry, so I opened the box and he ate a couple before going out to dinner. We left the box of chocolates on the kitchen table, and returned home to find that my dog had eaten the entire contents. We’ve been married 15 years now, and we both still laugh about that.

Please be sure he’s really ok.

Aside from the broken glass, raw starter and/or dough can be pretty bad for dogs…

Our dog didn’t eat my starter but ate yeast rolls that were on a cookie sheet rising. He ate all 24 of the rolls then came and plopped down in the middle of the kitchen and passed out. You could see the outline of rolls in her stomach, probably still rising. Funny now but then we were worried about her.

  6. My 2 got to mine too. Neither of them suffered any consequences from it. Mine was being fed in plastic while her ‘glass home’ was drying out. I just had to remake it again.

Non-pet related but funny story – I went on a solo trip and came back to my husband’s nagging and cleaning lady’s proud beam about how they cleared the “alcohol smelling slime” in the refrigerator. Turns out it was my 6 month old starter with its layer of hooch.

Where is obligatory picture of the villain?🥹

I’ve made three loaves of sourdough bread so far. My dog is the only being to have eaten any.

My devious poodle is so brazen that she just moves very fast, right in front of me if I leave out the butter dish. Then there are little teeth marks. Last month I had some grilled chicken thighs and had to leave real fast and didn’t shut the door. She ate all the bones!! Because of this problem I have dried starter in the freezer and plenty of discard saved up. I love my dog, but man oh man, those bones cost $300 that night at the emergency vet! I wish I could post a picture! So sorry about your starter. It will be okay. If you lived here I’d give you a jar of discard. You just have to feed it and it is once again starter!!

Should’ve kept it out of reach. lol! A day lived, another lesson learned.
