Every year, Aldi brings out a bunch of Christmas desserts that seem to vanish from the shelves almost as soon as they arrive.

But this year, while everyone’s busy with mince pies and a deluxe chocolate caramel bombe, there’s one new dessert quietly showing up in stores.

Aldi Christmas pudding cheesecake

Aldi’s Christmas Pudding Cheesecake hit the shelves this week, and I have to admit, it’s got me curious.

Cheesecake? Yes. Christmas pudding flavours? Absolutely.

Mixing two of the most divisive Christmas desserts into one? I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, but I’m already planning a trip to Aldi later today to see what all the fuss is about.

“This dessert could be a winner”

Better Homes and Gardens’ food editor, Sarah Murphy, says the concept could be surprisingly clever.

“In theory, this dessert could be a winner,” Sarah explains. “You typically pair Christmas pudding with something creamy — custard, ice cream, whipped cream. So we already know that creamy textures pair well with pudding. Combining that with cheesecake makes sense.”

Sarah also notes the dessert’s indulgence factor.

“I think the custard would make it super indulgent when you’ve already got the creamy cheesecake happening underneath. If you love dairy, you’ll be in heaven. If not… maybe abort the cheesecake mission and find something a little lighter!”

What does Aldi’s Christmas pudding cheesecake taste like?

As for what it actually tastes like? An Aldi spokesperson broke it down for us:

“It’s definitely a good mix of both. I’d say it’s more cheesecake in texture, but with spiced fruit and pudding flavour throughout, and topped with custard.”

In other words, expect a creamy base, some festive spices and a layer of custard on top.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to Aldi to do some very important research.
