Bittergourd – is there any other name for this vegetable? Oh someone said, it’s a fruit, is it?

Fun story; “Vegetable” is a made up term for edible vegetation and has no definition beyond that.
Fruits, roots, seeds, flowers, leaves, and stalks are the actual definition of the plant parts we eat. Any of these can be considered vegetables.

It’s called karela in Hindi, some recipes use it like karela sabzi, bharwa karela

I’ve always called it kerala. I love them, especially sliced thin and deep fried then tossed in spices. Don’t ask me what spices because I don’t remember, my mom used to make them when I was a kid but I’ve never tried making them myself.
