Castello’s Italian Restaurant has been chosen to be featured on the nationally recognized TV show “America’s Best Restaurants.”
ABR is known for sending TV crews into restaurants around the country to showcase the restaurant’s story, signature dishes, and what makes each location special.
When asked to describe ABR in his own words, Theo Williams, Americas Best Restaurants show host, said, “We’re just a show that travels around the country highlighting independently owned and operated restaurants to give restaurants the recognition they deserve.”
Todd Tinsley, Castello’s Italian Restaurant’s current chief operating officer, made it clear that the restaurant business runs in his blood. The desire that Tinsley has to serve the community of Poplar Bluff began years before he took over operations.
His nonna, Virginia “Ginny” Castello, managed a steakhouse for the late MLB Hall of Famer, Stan Musial. Stan Musial’s and Biggie’s is a staple in St. Louis known for its steaks, its cocktail lounge, and the presence of the late Stan the Man signing autographs.
Tinsley’s parents, Dr. Austin Tinsley and his wife Bobbie Tinsley, opened and operated a bowling restaurant in the 1980s before opening Castello’s Italian Restaurant in 2005. Tinsley was off at college and returned in 2010 to help grow the family business.
Tinsley said he never set out to be nationally recognized. “It didn’t really cross my mind. I’m just trying to help grow the family business while doing all I can for the community.”
He mentioned that the restaurant will sometimes feed local sports teams and give back to those in need.
