So inexpensive at the moment too. Dried the skin off, seasoned lightly with Gibsons and Lawrys Seasoned Salt. Applied Open Pit and 2 different Japanese BBQ sauces aprox. every 5-7 minutes.

Pillows are probably better to sleep on.

    Chicken looks good though.

  2. Efficient-Mind-2213

Butterfly cut them and they are even better. More surface area and more evenly cooked. For more flavor, brine / marinate them before grilling.

I love a drumstick but my family can’t stand them!

  4. ManufacturerWest6006

Leg quarters by me are less than a buck a pound and you get the thigh

  5. Austin_Austin_Austin

Those and thighs are my fav. Cheap, quick weekday meals that taste amazing.

  6. Toast-Crunch

Looking good. You’ll eat them for a week then get sick of them.

  7. Commodore_Thrakos

    Legs look great!
Try butterflying them. I just started doing it and boy I’ve been missing out.

  8. MiserableAmbition623

They look super nice!!! Thanks!! I was already hungry lol
Look back at the dangling drumsticks post, I can not wait to try it. But those are some healthy yummy looking drumsticks you have there…

  9. AMDeez_nutz

Try a mattress and a pillow, game changer

I love grilling drumsticks! I do the exact same thing. Season and then we pick a sauce. Sometimes bbq or We found this Indian style sauce at HEB called Korma that is really good all grilled and charred like this. I’ve done Nados too which rules.

  11. Cautious_Jicama_5610

Wait til you lollipop or butterfly them…….

  12. SolidSnek1998

The trick is to overcook them. Get a meat thermometer and cook those bad boys to 190f, get that fat to render.

  13. Love them lollipop style. Don’t like dealing with the tendons so when you lollipop’em you can pull and cut a lot of that out

  14. MDawg1019

In this economy, drumsticks are the only thing I can grill regularly. 😅

  15. ribsforherpleasure

    That doesn’t sound very comfortable.

  16. Business_Air5804

Done right they are the same as bigger wings….amazing.

Dip them in melted butter and hot sauce mixed.

  17. DuckODeath

I actually really like Open Pit sauce. It’s also not $8 a bottle.

  18. MajorAd3363

Heck yeah. I got a bunch on sale by me recently for $.98/lb. Never understood how when wings got so expensive restaurants didn’t go to legs or thighs. They are usually so cheap!

  19. Superhereaux

I’m team thighs all the way, pretty much bulletproof.

For the extremely rare times I do drums, I usually cook them longer so the tendons at the bottom break down a little more.

Also, try cooking the drums first, AND THEN sauce them so the sugar in the sauce doesn’t burn.

Just a tip: don’t be afraid to bring legs up to 190-200. Lots of the firmer tissues start to break down and there’s enough fat to not have them dry out. This is especially helpful if you haven’t had time to brine them.

  21. Justadududeco

If I can add a tip, grill on the top rack, less char and the sauce dries on the leg.

  22. jtmann05

Over the summer, I smoked a bunch of drumsticks and then did a quick fry to crisp up the skin. From there, I tossed them in buffalo sauce like you would with wings. Turned out amazing, and they’re always cheaper than wings.

  23. Traditional_Sky_6548

For real. I used to dislike them because that was the only piece I was allowed as a child. But boy, they are so good and such a value, and very versatile!

  24. TruthBeToldNoLie

The thighs by themselves is so much better.

  25. GalaxyStorm26

Brine them before grilling. The juiciness will make you a believer.

  26. Same-Chemistry-3079

Delete this post. We don’t need more people buying them (prices will go up).

For real though, one of my favorite things to grill.

  27. CaptDrunkenstein

Whole leg is my go to, but also good with drumsticks, thighs, and wings separately if needed

  28. xMyDixieWreckedx

This recipe is a hit at every BBQ I cook it at. I don’t follow any of the charcoal and cooking instructions, but the brining and seasoning parts are golden, just grill the way you normally would. I’ve seen this chicken empty faster than the steak and ribs on offer. It is amazing good.

Cheap organic packs at Costco. I split the packs with my dogs, lol. I love chick legs.

  30. el_smurfo

I love drumsticks and leg quarters but several members of my family can’t eat chicken on the bone. If I was single I would probably make three or four of those value packs of $0.50 per pound chicken legs and I would just eat that all week

  31. Lost-Link6216

Nice cook on them too. Look up lollipop chicken leggs and stingray chicken leggs. Both methods remove those pesky tendons and pine bone and making the eating exp 100% better. I only do it sometimes because it can be a pain until you have done enough.

  32. Hallucinates_Bacon

Haven’t tried them myself but another redditor posted a pic of their lollipop drumsticks and they looked awesome. You should check those out

  33. rahkinto

If you debone them it will be more comfortable

  34. Outrageous-Bee4035

Drumsticks are cheap, delicious, nutritious, and even kids love them. They’re a surprisingly easy food to forget about though, but I love em.

  35. EquivalentPrune9822

You didn’t grow up around churches that loved doing a good thigh or leg quarter plate sale lol loved them for a long time! Scoop of tater salad and you got magic my friend!

    Dumb question,

Don’t have access to a grill unfortunately.

Is there any way to achieve something similar to this using an oven / frying pan?

I know it won’t be exactly the same but something with a similar texture?

Also how do you get that red sear like in the picture? Is that sauce or part of the chicken meat without skin?

  37. lupulin59

How’s that barbecue sauce? Haven’t seen that before (Australia)
