that stuff absorbs water so aggressively. If you put it in water and forget about it for maybe 10 minutes, it turns into absolute sludge. I can’t imagine using it in a recipe. I am thankful for your post, as I no longer need to imagine.

I only put like a teaspoon in my stew and it just thickens the whole thing up a bit. I mix it in right away so it doesn’t clump

Shoulda used like the most tiny bit of xanthan gum. Like less than a bumps worth.

  4. try cornstarch next time. At least youll get your fiber!

oh hey! I just started taking the capsules yesterday. this method sounds way better than those!

That texture is going to be the least of your concerns if you eat that; psyllium husk is a natural laxative.

Ayyy I learned the same thing a few days ago 😂

  8. I can’t stand psyllium husk! I’m aware how healthy it is but it’s just so nasty.

I mean yeah it’s pure fiber, of course it’s going to make it gelatinous

I mean….at least you’re getting your fibre in.

What of you added vinegar to the stew would that break down the slimness?

Reminds me of my first experience with Metamucil. I misread that a serving was like 1 teaspoon and instead used 1 tablespoon. I mixed it and let it chill in fridge and came back to a sludge puck

Oh god, I did this with cornstarch once. I didn’t understand why you needed to fully dissolve the cornstarch in cold water before putting it in the soup, so I just dumped it in the soup dry and stirred it in. Later at dinnertime we found THE GLOB.

Well damn.. I guess I’ll take that off my bucket list then!!

Idk what psyllium husk is but it sounds like something you have to collect 10 of for a quest

  16. I’d probably take this an smear it on a toasted crusty half of a roll. I imagine it would be more enjoyable.

Next time you need to thicken stew, use a roux. Equal parts butter/oil and flour. Simmer for a short time and add the resulting mixture to the pot. If some is stuck in the pot, ladle some soup in there, swish it around and pour it back in.

A half a cup does almost two gallons of stew(volume of all ingredients, not just the liquid) for me.
