Enjoy it! They were one of the reasons I moved from
    NY to Texas.

  2. I drive by here on the way to drop off my kid at school every morning. It’s astonishing to me how many people show up at 7 am to wait in line. Not every day, but about half of them.

Maybe I went on a bad day, but I wasn’t impressed- I thought Blacks was better 🤷‍♀️

Our favorite part of the trip was waiting in that line drinking beers. Food was delish!

My GF used to live in the apartments across the street. No better way to have early morning bloody mary’s.

The pecan pie is DIVINE dude gotta get it

  7. Man-a-saurus

What time did you get in line? What # in line are you?

  8. Imaginary-Race311

I lived in Austin and never ate there once. No food is worth that line.

  9. Countryb0i2m

How good is the food, relative to the wait?

  10. 8:45…guess their hype is slipping. You used to have to start lining up before dawn.

    What’s your list for DFW?

You gotta try Smoke N Ash Ethiopian BBQ

Last time I went I got in line around 11:30 am on a week day and was through the line by 12ish. I don’t even think anything I wanted was sold out. Wasn’t bad at all.

When you’re done head down the street to Nickel City bar. They have this blended coffee cocktail thats friggin amazing. Plus the caffeine helps with the meat-sweats

  14. Sovereign_Follower

Do that again and ill break your middle finger.

    Hope the food was stellar.

The name of the place is right on the sign in the first pic.

    Actual question.

I’m a home cook and struggle with brisket a bit still, have made some good stuff but won’t call myself an award winner yet.

But, when I make a steak, I would have to travel a long ways and spend a lot of money to beat what I’m turning out at home. They don’t all hit, but more than 50% of my steaks are top tier. I can’t order a steak now, because I know I will judge it harshly.

So having said that, is it worth the hype/money?

I’m absolutely not trying to bag on anyone, glad people see success and I’m just as glad that these guys are willing to try to help with sharing knowledge. Just trying to figure out if this sort of thing would eventually compare to my steak problem. I’m not a snob, just a guy trying to understand the difference.

I went there about a month ago around 1pm on a Thursday. One hour wait, and totally worth it. Best brisket I have ever had, and I’ve had a lot. The sides were garbage but you don’t go for the sides. The pecan pie was out of this world

  18. I went there a few years ago to visit my BM’s family before a wedding, line was literally wrapped around the building but the food was well worth the wait for us, I saw the first pic and was like I have to check if this is Austin because of how familiar the building looked

  19. SilverBreadfruit2927

so based on the pics, any given time if i wanted bbq i would be standing in line?

  20. SilverBreadfruit2927

few years back i went to NY to Katz deli for a famous pastrami sandwich, when i got there the line was 2 blocks long (F_that). i went across the street to a competitors’ deli and hade zero line. it was fabulous. Its all about the name.

  21. smokinmeets89

Their spicy bbq sauce is my current go to.

  22. ChumleyEX

If you head to Dallas, look out for Miller Smokehouse in Belton.. it’s pretty good and doesn’t have a crazy line.

  23. kerouacrimbaud

Lmao I thought this placed looked familiar. Then I realized I had only seen it on this sub before

  24. ChairmanJim

Go to Louie Mueller in Taylor. No line good BBQ

  25. naughtabot

Brother, it’s right there on the sign: Franklin Barbecue

  26. misirlou22

I had one chance to go there while at a bachelor party in Austin, but was far too hung over to get out of bed when the time came.

    UPDATE: https://imgur.com/a/6QgJdNw

2.5 hours in line and I’d say it’s worth it. Had a great time meeting people and hanging out waiting, hardly felt like 2.5 hours. The staff is super friendly and the food was outstanding.

    Honest food option:
    – Brisket was on a different level. Outstanding.
    – Ribs were fantastic. Good chew without falling apart.
    – Sausages were good. The original was overall better than the cheddar/jalapeno
    – Turkey…I wanted to love it, but..it was just good. Not at the same level as the rest of the food.

  28. Human-Abrocoma7544

People love to claim it’s overrated and they are wrong. It’s worth the wait and absolutely incredible.

  29. benbenpens

I’ll stick to the much faster line at Cooper’s in Llano.

  30. Gavacho123

There’s too many good BBQ joints in Texas to be waiting in line.
