If I see a fraction its a whole onion.
If I cup, one onion per cup. I buy giant onions almost the size of a small to medium cabbage.
Ive never had anyone complain and I cook for 3 people 6 days a week.

I keep forgetting that people use recipes for like, cooking. Like they don’t know from their eyes what amount of onions they are putting in and what that will ultimately taste like. They need a number made up by a bot on the internet to tell them an amount.

easy fix, if a recipe asks for anything between 0 and 2 cups of onions, put a bigass onion in there
