I finally made salsa de chile de árbol a couple of days ago and it’s really good!

Posting this for anyone who wants to make a really flavorful red chile salsa that’s spicy but not that spicy. If you want it to be more spicy, do it the way the original recipe says; for less spicy, follow the changes (in bold).

I followed the third recipe in this Cocina Jauja video with a few modifications: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x31zsYW-MCY

Ingredients and steps: Salsa de chile de árbol con jitomate asada

  • [ ] 4 Roma tomatoes
  • [ ] 1 chile serrano – used 1 chile jalapeño
  • [ ] 1/4 to 1 small white onion
  • [ ] 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • [ ] 1 tbsp oil
  • [ ] 10 chiles de árbol – used 1 chile guajillo, cleaned, and 8 whole chiles de árbol *
  • [ ] 1/4 cup water
  • [ ] Salt to taste (about 1 tsp)

Roast the tomatoes and the fresh chile on a comal until thoroughly cooked. Set aside to cool.

Fry the sliced onions and the garlic in the oil until golden.

Add the de-seeded chile guajillo and the chiles de árbol to the pan and heat until fragrant.

Add tomatoes, chile serrano, onions, garlic, and chiles to your blender with water and salt. Blend thoroughly.
