In a November ceremony at the Philadelphia Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Michelin announced the restaurants included in this year’s Northeast edition. Philly and Boston guides were newly added this year, forming the Michelin Guide Northeast Cities edition along with Chicago, New York, and D.C.
Only three Philly restaurants received inaugural star status. Amanda Shulman’s intimate Her Place Supper Club, Chad and Hanna Williams’ elegant Friday Saturday Sunday, and relative Philadelphia newcomer Provenance were each awarded a single star, while 10 other restaurants were recognized as Bib Gourmands (noted for high-quality food at a great value), and another 18 were noted under the Michelin Recommends category. Among the winners was Laurel, chef Nicholas Elmi’s East Passyunk restaurant, which announced it will be temporarily closing to move to a new location.
