Bought this nice old ECM Technika II the other day for a two figure price… was not able to check it except for seeing that the power light went on.
When I got home, I saw that the pump was disconnected and tossed into the water tank and some cables were disconnected too.
Luckily, the heating element showed the proper Ω and after replacing the pump I was able to fill the boiler and the machine heated up. What came out of the water dispenser was rancid, black liquid. I suspect that milk got into the boiler and had some time to incubate…
All connections were full of limestone (is this the proper word?) and some nicely turquoise colored copper compounds.
So, full service it was… every screw, hose, pipe, seal, washer disconnected and cleaned. Stripped to the bone…
Now it is working again and should do so for another couple of decades…
Cheers!

Very cool. How long was this process?
Chapeau!☕🫡
That’s some serious rehab! Kudos to you.
So cool!!
beautiful!
Impressive!
This is super impressive! I bet the espresso tastes twice as good now with all the work you put in!
How did you clean the boiler from the inside?
And what was the total cost and time you spent?
Awesome work! Instead of limestone, the term limescale or even just scale is used. It differentiates from the rock.
