A festive appeal for the community to treat someone to a seat for Christmas dinner has been launched by Golf World Stansted.

The Elsenham-based golf club wants to sprinkle a little Christmas magic and for the third year running will host a luncheon for up to 60 people, along with an afternoon of live entertainment, at its clubhouse in Hall Road.

Each seat costs £20 to donate to someone deserving within the community who can enjoy a festive treat.

The club will host the dinner on Tuesday December 16 from 12.30pm with acoustic duo Emily Unna & Richard Stubbs providing the entertainment.

Club manager Joanne Maton said the two previous years’ events had proved extremely popular and had benefited older people in the area who may be widowed or lonely.

Volunteers will join staff in serving up the meal while the club’s suppliers donate food and drink. The traditional two-course Christmas dinner includes all the trimmings, plus wine, while the ladies’ golf section provides a treat for each diner to take home.

Said Joanne: “It is a non-profit-making event where we give people the opportunity to buy a seat anonymously for someone deserving in the local community.

“I have built relationships with a number of people in the community and I understand their circumstances well. An invitation, no matter how big or small, reminds them that they matter.”

Donations should be made in person at the club.
