Could you run a pellet grill here for shorter cooks or is this just dumb? Been grilling here for years but want to switch alto a pellet grill now. I have no idea how smokey they actually get?

You could… I wouldn’t but i have had a few too many grill malfunctions and fires to trust one under structure i am sleeping in.

It’s fine. Just keep a fire extinguisher close by and make sure you’re cleaning the pellet giro after every 2-3 cooks

That nice white ceiling would be nasty after a few cooks, no matter how clean you kept the smoker

Should you?
I would not.

I think it’s fine as long as you can keep an eye on it. If you do overnight cooks then I would move it outside of the lanai. I had bought a MembersMark smoker from Sam’s and only used it a few times. It malfunctioned and started a fire, luckily I was watching it otherwise my lanai and house could have been damaged. Needless to say I returned the smoker. If it malfunctioned once I didn’t think I could trust it again. If that had happened overnight inside my covered lanai it could have been really bad.

You can buy bricks or pavers and lay them on the grass and put it out there. Use a cover when it rains. Mine lives in a similar porch and I push it out onto a bunch of pavers to use it. I’m renting so I didn’t want to invest in actually paving it.

you could put a hood or make a vent through the ceiling. lots of people have a “smokehouse” or smokeshack that use similar venting/flashing as a fireplace/wood stove.
but fire would always be a concern. are you hawaiian? cause if not, that’s just a covered patio.

This will be a mistake that you’ll regret.
You’ll get significant smoke staining on the roof, and the smell will penetrate into the house way more than you expect.
There’s no beating the comfort and practicality of having your grill covered, but you really need to separate it from the living space. Look into grill gazebos.

If you get some hvac duct and vent the chimney outside you could eliminate 90% of the issue but you’d still have the rest due to leaks and opening and closing. But I think with a vent it would work

It looks too confined of a space, especially with ceiling supports coming down a foot long, creating a space for the smoke to linger.

I’ve got one that I keep in the garage and roll out into the driveway when used. Once cooled and cleaned, I put it back. Easy peasy…

Thank you everyone for the replies. I plan on listening to the advice to not burn down my house and will not be putting a pellet grill there!!

You shouldn’t be using any gas grill in there anyway. It should be at least 10 feet from any living area structure. One bad hose connection or grease fire and your home is gone.
