my first mistake was thawing the unpackaged fish by dunking it in warm water. the fish got saturated with water so when i put it in the hot oiled pan, it went to shit. fish started to fall apart, so i just went with it and chopped it up in the pan. then i added too much seasoning. took a bite once it was done, and ive never tasted anything worse. mixed it with corn in hopes it would taste better, didnt go as planned. put it on garlic bread and that made it somewhat edible. 30 minutes later i ran to the bathroom since it went right thru me. threw the rest of it in the garbage. decided i was fine with staying hungry tonight. never again

Idk what it tastes like but it looks like id eat it over rice with a drizzle of ketchup

Bro what… depending on the thickness of the fillet, you might not even need to thaw it to cook. Just adjust the cooking time and temp

Fish likes to fall apart. Even worse when using frozen fillets. This is why if we aren’t grilling a whole fish with the skin on, we like to cover it in breadcrumbs or batter to fry it.

A simpler alternative for frozen fillets is a shallow poach. Fry up some veg, put the frozen fillets on top, add some wine/stock/cream and stick a lid on.

Some people’s brains are so fascinating. “Corn will fix badly cooked fish”

“The fish went to shit, so I added corn.”

Sometimes a person’s cooking process just blows my mind. I would have taken the L, and just made a peanut butter sandwich.

  6. CautionarySnail

When fish falls apart, consider a strategic pivot to making fish corn chowder.

Good thing there isn’t any non-food item that is typically dark brown, in which corn kernels remain visibly untouched.

  8. BoopTheCoop

That’s… that’s so much corn though?

  13. noiness420

Who makes fish and thinks, ‘you know what would go good with this? 20 pounds of corn!’

  14. LiamIsMyNameOk

I wish you took some photos before it had gone straight through you

  15. gothhotpocket

Put it on top of rice and add sriracha ! I’m there 😋

  16. Mixing things with corn doesn’t enhance the flavor. Hope this helps. 🫡

How are some people so bad at cooking??? Thawing something under water when its unpacked??

  18. tipareth1978

When you thaw things you have to use cold water. Otherwise you’re cooking it that whole time

  19. EnterTheNightmare

Feels like I’ve seen a lot of canned corn on this sub lately.

  20. “since it went right thru me. ”

You gotta thaw raw fish slowly, gradually, in cold water that you replace every X minutes or in fridge.

Don’t get me wrong, I love corn, but “just throw corn on it” is 100% NOT on my list of things to try when a recipe goes awry.

That said, I have had plenty of my own disasters in the kitchen, so I have probably tried something similar in the past.

  22. IronerOfEntropy

Thawing ANY food in warm water is asking to get the shits.

Never thaw anything in warm water. Always under a running faucet.

  23. You shouldn’t be thawing any type of raw meat, fish included, in warm water. That allows bacteria to rapidly grow prior to cooking. Plus then the outside gets too thawed and the inside still frozen, causing uneven cooking like a cool centre that didn’t kill off the bacteria you just allowed to spread. Remember, it’s not necessarily the bacteria that makes you sick, but the toxins they release and often those toxins are still present even after cooking. Added bonus with fish, parasites! Don’t give their eggs a chance to spread in your kitchen with unpackaged thawing. Hope you washed whatever container you had the fish thawing in (hoping it wasn’t the sink)

Would you like more fish with your corn sir?

  25. inigos_left_hand

Every single decision you made while cooking this was wrong. That’s pretty impressive actually.

  26. Kiddoika

I’m imagining that you cooked and shredded a carp and the corn was just the contents of its stomach… please tell me I’m not correct

  27. ElkSad9855

Bro defrosted fish in water with no covering… holyyyyy shit.

  28. CuntForSpades

Problem solving isn’t for everyone OP, but the choices made here are impressively nonsensical.

  29. LegalFan2741

I’m just fucking dying at the comments 😭😃 OP this is the best submission for this sub so far. All this gold

  30. petterpopper

I’d recommend you start your cooking adventures but looking up very basic recipes and following them exactly 😅. We all know that mountains are climbed one step at a time, but for fucks sake don’t take a shit in a crevasse then fall in

  31. Critical-Chemist-860

The corn + explosive diarrhea just makes me imagine you on the toilet with a machine gun spitting out back there.
