A week ago I asked you all for the best pizza spots in NYC for my side project and got 90k views.
I took your recommendations and built it:
https://www.kinghill.nyc
Think of it as r/FoodNYC’s live ranking reddit style:
no SEO games,
no influencer lists,
no sponsorships,
NO sign-ups,
completely anonymous.
FREE to use
Just real people deciding what deserves to stay on top.
The problem:
We have all been here… Googling "best pizza NYC" and scrolling past sponsored results, SEO-optimized lists, and Yelp reviews you're not sure you can trust. Or spending 20 minutes digging through Reddit threads from 2 years ago trying to piece together what's still good. Finding great food in NYC shouldn't require cross-referencing five sources and hoping for the best.
How King of the Hill works:
—10 restaurants compete on a leaderboard per category
—You vote for favorites (or downvote the overrated)
—Every Sunday at midnight, #10 gets eliminated and loses all votes
—Top community nomination replaces them Monday at 0 votes
—Ranks 1-9 keep their votes—momentum builds week after week
—Upvote comments to surface the best dishes at each spot
What's live now:
Pizza 🍕
Burgers 🍔
Korean 🇰🇷
Ramen 🍜
Sushi 🍣
I seeded the initial lists using the recommendations from that pizza thread and other strong recs from r/FoodNYC. The current votes are from a small beta launch I did with friends, but from here it’s entirely up to the community.
The next elimination happens on Sunday, Nov 28 at midnight. Vote now or watch #10 get kicked out.
No sponsorships. No algorithms. Just New Yorkers deciding what's actually worth eating.
Its a passion project and I dont make money from this, in fact, losing money :/

What category should I add next? I can spin up one really quickly. I will take the most upvoted reply in this thread and add it next week!
Sorry but idk how people rank Joe’s so high.
Edit:
1) remember you can upvote your own comments, I havent implemented that yet,
2) the UI might be buggy right now but they should correct when the sync timer is up. Still fixing this.
3) The nomination votes carries over. Doesnt reset to 0. Keeps the momentum going!
4) ramen hasnt been added yet. My mistake. Too tired
Glad to NOT see the very overrated L’Industrie on the pizza list
Happy to vote for my guys Sal and Carmine, but they’re way too local to get citywide votes.
Weirdest collection of Korean restaurants. It’s like 70% KBBQ and then 2 traditional joints + 1 fusiony place.
Chrissy’s being ahead of Rubi is nonsense
Paul’s Da Burger Joint being the #2 burger is absolutely absurd
I didn’t see L’Industrie on this list and that pizza is amazing!
John’s of Bleeker is overrated. The pizza is really good but there are so many better places. I recommend Johnny’s Pizza at Mount Vernon.
I love this – well done on creating it! Excited to see if you add more categories!
The sushi section is a crime.
I like the rest of it though.
Nami nori ranked above Noz is blasphemy
This is so cool!
I don’t see the Ramen category
Suggestion I think you should do 10 normal slots, and one “new contender” slot, instead of the 10th being the same as the contender. Just because a location is this weeks nomination doesn’t mean it’s the 10th best, which is what the current system says it is.
Alternatively, any currently ranked location that doesn’t reach a minimum threshold of points risks losing its spot next week, allowing for multiple new changes week by week.
Every time I comment that Scarrs is delicious I get downvoted. Why is this?
How is John’s of Bleecker no 1. I think the majority here just follow what portnoy says. That place is good but not 5
Cool!
Do Indian, thai, and Mediterranean next
Super proud that not a single one of my 9-10 go-tos is on here.
I went out of my way to try Industrie and it’s not even on the list ? Fuck
How come nominated, l’industries in particular, is way higher in vote count compared to the top ranked list? (I agree, it’s better than mama toos and johns by far, but im still not waiting in line for it). On that note, village Square down the block is a darn good pizza place without the wait.
Prince Street at -34. Good to see the honesty!
I was hyped for this but then saw the actual rankings and realized that this is a delusional, biased list, too, just in a different way than the usual “influencer, sponsored” type of lists. My suspicion is the this sub has a huge bias against popular spots with lines and hype (even when good) and favorably biases “old school classic” spots (even when nowadays bad). Because there is no way John’s of Bleecker is no1 and joes no3, while Lindustrie isn’t even in the list. I get it sucks to wait in line but it disintegrates at least half of these places. Not to mention that John’s has to be one of the most overrated pizza joints in the city. It’s mid af and gets carried solely from the fact that it’s such a classic institution, but sadly it’s not a top spot anymore. Same is true for the burger list. No way people prefer corner bistro over 4 Charles or Minetta. Also where the hell is Red Hook?
Suggest you 86 Prince St and Joe’s, and replace them with Patsy’s (Harlem) and Scarr’s 🙌
I’m confused, how is Prince Street in 10th place with -36 votes?
This is amazing, do you think you could add a page for r/chicagofood?
This is great. Should be a sticky on this feed. Hopefully voters are objective and dont just downvote because they got a broken fork.
shocked that Jongro is #10
